What is hedge trimming?

Hedge trimming is the process of pruning the outer faces of the hedge's height and width. This is to maintain a natural-looking shape without reducing the overall size, usually achieved by small trims at regular intervals through the growing season.

Why have your Hedges trimmed or resized?

While they are a beautiful addition to your landscaping, trimming or pruning hedges takes a lot of time and effort. Overgrown hedges are not only an eyesore, but they can have many negative effects on the overall health of your flower beds and landscape, hence the need for having your hedges trimmed or pruned regularly. If a hedge is not trimmed and kept in shape regularly then it can quite quickly become overgrown. This will result in the need for a hedge reduction which can be costly in comparison to the charge for regular maintenance trims.

A well-maintained hedge can provide several benefits to your property, including giving a safe environment for birds and animals, they can also provide a windbreak in exposed areas and of course, make a secure boundary.

An overgrown hedge will detract from a properties value and can of course block out light. Established hedges require trimming to keep the structure dense and compact and to promote fresh growth. Formal hedges require more frequent trimming than informal hedges to keep the size and shape.

Whether you are looking to add value to your property or simply making your garden a nicer place to spend time, have smart well-tended hedges can make all the difference.

What time of the year is it best to trim a hedge?

The best time of year for reducing hedges varies, Deciduous hedges ideally should be cut back in autumn and winter unless the particular species do not like to be pruned when the weather is cold.

Evergreen hedges are best reduced from mid-spring onwards and over the summer months, this is due to them responding better when the risk of frost has gone and there is active growth.

Andrew's Arboriculture undertake hedge trimming and resizing which can transform how your property looks.
